I pulled the tranny today. I'll start on the tranny tunnel mods next week.

I also got a '79-'82 (serviceable, small flange) driveshaft that somebody had already swapped in some GMB U-joints. I painted it up today and it's looking pretty good. The small flange bolts right up to the GLC diff. I only have one concern which is the driveshaft is 10mm longer than optimal. It is 150mm shorter than the GLC shaft. The perfect number is 160mm. Then again, the GLC shaft seemed like it was a little too short in the first place, but I could be wrong. I'll just have to see how the 1st gen shaft fits when everything is in place.

Why didn't I just get the GLC shaft shortened? The GLC's U joints are very tiny. The RX-7 shaft was only $25.00 and should handle 200-250HP just fine.
10mm should be close enough, no?

Is the tr3 a heavier car than the FD?
its 2000lbs. the fd spring is like 2.5 feet long and the wire is very thin, the tr3 spring is like 1.5 feet long and thick. same diameter though, id have to compress the **** out of the fd spring to get it in there, so i didnt. the tr3 spring will go in and come out without really needing a spring compressor, PLUS it has a spacer on it so i removed that

That's gotta be nice. I can't wait to get a set of aftermarket springs for mine. It's way too soft. I'm thinking either Racing Beat or Eibach. Even the rear springs will work, according to steve84gs. I'll still have to come up with spacers for the front springs though, since the front was really low with the 13B in it.

As for the angle iron and sheet metal, I think that's how the aussies do their RX-3s. I'll probably have to send a few PMs if I can't figure mine out.

My friend's '81 FB rides and handles quite well with RB springs and 185 70 R13 tires. Even with the slightly extra weight of a 5" SC on a 13B ('74 rotor housings, Y side plates, aggressive streetport, '86 rotors, aluminum flywheel), it's fine. Of course the 13B itself is lighter than the stock 12A the car came with lol.

I'd say anything with a higher spring rate would be an improvement on my car. Too squishy. It needs shocks too. I'll have to get some Tokico Illumas or whatever the adjustable ones are called.

Nannas!

I have tokiko HP struts and shocks with the Suspension techniques springs and they look like they will ride well together.I wish I had the money at the time for Rb springs because I hear they are the best but these ST springs should work well.

I've been wondering for a long time which was the best. I've heard lots of good things about the RB springs. Figured I'd go with them simply because I can buy either the fronts or the rears, or both, instead of all four. Then I found out my car can use RX-7 rear springs, so I'm back to square one.

The RBs look like they'll be the best overall. Not as stiff as the Eibachs (in front anyway), but uh... hmm.

According to Mazdatrix' website, The Eibachs are the highest rate fronts and the RB are the highest rate rears. Since my car definetly feels front heavy on my floor jack, I might want to go with the Eibachs. They also only lower the car around 3/4" instead of the 1" of the other springs. They're only $82 more expensive than the RB springs.

What to do?

The 20B is back in the engine bay. This time, it's got a flywheel and clutch installed. A bit trickier to deal with the extra length, but once it's in position, I found it to be not any more difficult to mate to a tranny than a 13B. Everything else leading up to it was the hard stuff.

Gonna test fit the drievshaft now.

It's too long to even fit on the flange. I guess I'll need to have it shortened. Maybe a 1/2" ought to do it because 10mm seems a little too short if you know what I mean. It's also easier for the driveshaft guy to figure it out.
