Composition Of Stock Exhaust Port Sleeves?

High nickel or high chromium content...i.e. stainless.

It feels like SS when trying to machine them.

Yes, the gap is for differing expansion rates.

I have a set of sleeves from a JSPEC turbo engine that will stick to a magnet, does this imply that they are not stainless steel?



Another set came from an S5 non turbo engine, these did not stick to a magnet, so it's safe to conclude the material is different.



I had to have one of the turbo sleeves machined to fit, and the machinist claimed it was made of titanium from the way it cuts. Not sure on that one...

Modifying Rotor Housing

If 1976-on rotor housings are being used, we recommend closing off the exhaust port air passage openings by welding a disc of stainless steel inside the exhaust sleeve.

Not all SS is non-magentic, but most of them are.

I dobut it, unless he wasted a LOT of milling tools trying to get it shaped right.
