What are the stock exhaust sleeves made out of? And is that air gap between the housing's port and the sleeve there for the expansion of the sleeve?

I think the gap is also for isulation, so the rotor housings stay cooler..

To maintain strength at high temps, probably a high nickel content steel.

The gap is to reduce heat transfer to the housing.

I used a zirconium nitride coated drill bit and went through easily with a good drill.

Are you gonna try your hand at making replacements 1Revvin7?

I have an idea for one, but I need to know what I can make them out of, and at the lowest cost possible.

I read that you can make replacement sleeves out of Al, they just have to a tight fit inorder to allow the heat to move to the coolant passages. I don't want to have to build several motors to figure this out if someone already has. I'm going to spend enough money dynoing several shapes as is.

Al, seems quite inpossible to me, then you can better weld up te housings and make the flow path you want in the housings without sleeves, because it'll be Alot of work to make the sleeves fit so well the the heat is optimal transferred without melting them away, especially with turbo applications..

They also seem cast. Does that have anything to do with anything. I thought cast took heat better??

I don't think RE sleeves are cast.. It looks like the ring is machined and that the other peace that sits in the housing with the emission passage is welded on?

FC units definatly look like a very high quality cast. Well I'm sending the sleeve off to someone who has a machine that can identify the composition of any metal.
