13B in a custom lotus 7
#11
Hi!
I'm running a lotus 7 replica with a bike engine in it - I mounted it solidly, I'm sure a rotary wouldn't be much harsher - solid mounting rotaries seems common enough, so I'm sure it'd be fine.
I don't want to tell you how to build your car but I'd definitely reccommend you think about ditching the turbos. These cars have pretty poor aerodynamics so loads of power is more or less pointless. Losing weight on the other hand pays off big style! Another problem with 7's is the're hard to keep cool, again turbo's aren't doing you any favours here and if you want an intercooler thats's another problem. The last thing is the comb-over intake adds a lot of height to the engine, and height is certainly not a luxury you have in these engine bays
I don't want to put a dampener on your idea at all, far from it - a small light revvy engine is perfect for a 7, just power shouldn't come at the expense of weight. If you want power I'd consider and reccommend porting the hell out of the engine , you can afford to lose low end torque because there's no real ned for it in a light car that I'm guessing is primarily for racing?
I'm happy to tell you what I know, I'm also interested to know what route you're going for the chassis, I take it you're familiar with ron champions book? There's also a guy on here called bill shurvington, he has a 13b on throttlebodies in a westfield - he might be a good person to talk to?
