I was out for my Saturday morning drive and didn't find much to play with so I started to head home. When about a mile from my house I spotted a Lotus Esprit coming the opposite direction with driver and the extra weight of a female passenger. Traffic was quite slow so I flipped around and causally accelerated to catch up. My intake temperature was right about 54C by the time I pulled up next to the Lotus. We matched our speeds right about 60 mph. I was in third, but pushed the clutch in to give a little zing of engine noise and turbo whistle. He down shifted. After a few looks back and forth and a smile the Lotus Esprit punched it first and snatched a half car length on me. I punched it quickly thereafter and drove on by, putting about a car length and a half on him by the time I hit the end of 3rd gear. Checking the commander later it revealed I hit a bit over 7800 rpm with injector duty cycle max of 89%. We pulled up to the next red light and had a bit of conversation with a laugh or two. He was a cool guy with a British accent. We drove on.

I'm not sure exactly which 4 cylinder turbo, Lotus Esprits this particular car was, but it seemed to be one of these two in the links below. It had the same spoiler and look to the body.

Lotus Esprit, 1995

Lotus Esprit, 1993

My mods.

DP, matched to exhaust manifold

CB, HKS Carbon Ti

Cat, stock with interior welds ground flush

Power FC, 10 psi

air box, stock/modified

WOW, you're missing out. I've driven two V8 TT Esprits and they kick ***. We have an exotic car dealer close to my place so I get over there as much as I can. They had an open house so to speak and let people drive a few cars including the Lotus', a BMW Z8, and a 355 Ferrari.
