whatevers open, dont have a prefference i just play everywhere.

 

keep in mind that laptops break, plain and simple... so all the people complaining about hard drives breaking in their brand of laptop, ignore it. Hard drives don't like being in a mobile environment, no matter what laptop the dude had the hard drive would have likely died. The manufacturers all use mostly the same drives, there are not that many companies making hard drive these days.



What you should look at is the warranty, how quickly they will fix your laptop (not if but) when it breaks, and if they will be replacing parts with new or remanufactured parts, and how long the warranty lasts.



Personally, I prefer solid state devices for mobile use... something like a PDA without a mechanical hard drive as it's primary storage. Then I'd just put together a decent machine for the desktop.

that depends heavily on the software you use for tuning, if it's dos/linux based you can get away with something alot older & slower (and cheaper, and often more rugged & reliable) but if your tuning software requires windows xp or whatever latest windows junk you will need a relatively modern laptop with enough speed and memory to run the operating system and tuning software.



basically, the requirements are dictated by the tuning software you will be using, so consult the software provider / documentation for guidelines here.
