Dell. Simple and won't break the bank. Get something with a decent processor. Over 2.0 GHZ is enough. 256mb SDRAM(or DDRAM not sure) Memory. And about a 40 gig hard drive. Any other options work well. But scrap the floppy drive. Everybody uses cd's now. Don't get compaq,or HP. Because they are both the same company. HA. Or you could get a SONY. Those are nice!!

Good luck and happy shopping. I prefer desktops, because they are much easier to fix.

Yeah, DEFINATELY stay away from Compaq, I have a Presario 5100(?) laptop and a week after waranty, hard drive took a big **** on itself. its been sent in 4 times (prosessor here, mother board there, Hard drive failure, keyboard not working) and that was all in the first 3 months. now, they won't fix it anymore. when it did work, it worked great, alittle slower than the processor should have, but was decent.

Toshibas, thinkpads, and Sonys are all nice.

Can usually get a decent one off ebay for $300-$500

New Sonys will run alot more, usually a few grand.

Then there is the APPLE power book. Nice stuff

LOL. I worked at wal mart electronics for 2 years. Hewlett Packard and Compaq's returned out the ***. But then we got Sony Vaio's and nope, no returns on them. There laptops just plain suck. Yeah, I would stick with ebay, you can get good prices on there. Oh, and check out www.tigerdirect.com. They have tons of stuff the has been repossed, and sell stuff cheap.

I've had a VAIO R505 for a few years now and it's given me so many problems that it just kills me since it's so beautifull.

FIrst major problem came one year after ownership, the harddrive just DIED. I nearly lost everything.

A few months later the system.ini file or something just dissapeared, and I lost the C drive, all data GONE.

Plus there are a bunch of other things that went worng. Would I buy another VAIO, yeah I would, but this time I'd delete all the software that came with the laptop from Sony.

Believe me, Sony just makes the shittiest software in the world and that software conflicts with everything elseon the PC's.
