Then you really should get out more.

Seriously, the only people I kmow who talk trash about the M5s quality are people like you who've never owned one and have little to no personal experience with them. I personally know 10 people who own M5s, 7 are E39s like mine, and 3 E34s (Ronin style). Not one of them has anything bad to say about the car at all, and none of them have had any of the super expensive reliability issues that the uninitiated seems to think plague this car more than others. I can tell you that neither I nor anyone I know with an M5 has ever had any undue problems with any of the systems you mentioned. Sure, if you drive like an idiot, you'll roast your clutch and tires, but no more than any other car. It just costs more to fix once it does need it, but that goes with the territory. It's not a Honda. It was an $80k car when new, parts are going to be pricey, but just like anything, if you're smart, find a good one to start with, perform all the regular maintenance like it's a religion, and take care of any problems that do pop up right away, then it's a very rewarding car. It's not unlike an FD in that respect, everyone thinks they are nothing but problems, but if you know what you're doing, you can keep them running like clockwork all the time. Maybe I'm just more lucky than most. I put $300 into my M5 for a cam position sensor, and that's it. Of the two guys in my neigborhood who own E39 M5s, cam position sensors are the only non-regular mantenance things they've had to deal with, and one of them has a full DINAN S2 kit on it, if there were going to be reliability problems, that would be the one they would happen with. Or go peruse M5Board.com, and see how many actual owners are complaining about reliability.

Any of the small problems that they actually do have melt away into nothingness anyway, the first time you find yourself on a super curvy, deserted mountain road when you realize that you're going fast enough to scare yourself, and you're doing it in a 4000 lb sedan.

Hell, if we follow your logic, a potential RX8 owner is probably best off spending the exact same amount of money on a Lotus 7 replica.
Finally!

RX-8=a fun car to drive. Underpowered? Sure, I don't think my car's fast at all. Handles well? You bet. Easy to drive? Hell yeah. Comfortable? To me, exceptionally. My girlfriend loves it, my friends love to ride in it, my dad asks to drive it to work every once in a while, and I enjoy the whole experience of owning and driving it. The stereo system is the best I've heard stock for stock (Bose premium option) and I stay away from aftermarket stereos, so that's a big plus for me. All-in-all, the RX-8 is the perfect (or near-perfect) daily driver for a rotorhead. You get a warranty, 2 extra seats, new car smell, a decent pricetag, and no overheating. I love it, but I didn't get it expecting to race anything.

Of course people that paid enough to own those cars arent gonna say anything bad about them....because if they say something bad about it...why would they still own it? uhhhhh...duhhhh.

And you know 10 people with them, so plus you that makes 11. Now how many of those cars were sold in the states? so basically you're taking a 0.001% of owners of those vehicles and making a decision based on that information?

How about i collate all of the BMW's that i have *solely* worked on in my shop... thats not including the other 3 mechanics... I'll collate all those $2k+ work orders and mail them to you....you have to pay shipping tho because ill need a lot of boxes. Hell i can even knocked it down to only 2001 and newer 5 and 7 series cars...ill still need boxes upon boxes...and we're not even the dealership...and we often send BMW owners away because some of the **** that breaks is too dangerous for us...the liability isnt worth it. Of course then they get their ******* widened 10 feet at the stealership and come back begging us to do all the work anyway.

seriously, BMWs are status symbols. the car's not even fun to drive, no sense of speed, no sense of power. Hell even the Z3 was boring to drive.

Oh and yes not only have i worked on these cars constantly but ive been driving them on a pretty regular basis for about 4-5 years, and ive actually been broken down on the side of the road with them more then in my 7, believe it or not.

edit: on a side note...the stupid computer we bought just to talk to bmw's, alone, costs about 8-10k, with $3,000 yearly upgrades. and everytime i start racking up the "need to fix" list on the fancy cars that come in the shop i laugh out loud. ******* status craving *beep*.

My point about the srt4 is that I buy a car to have fun in, i've driven an srt4..its more fun than a rx8 and quicker, i've also driven stock and upgraded evos....lots more fun and not as uncomfortable as you make it.

when driving an srt-4, you are still driving a neon. you feel like your in a neon, you look like your in a neon, it just sounds a little different.

IT'S A TURBO NEON.. NOT AN SRT-4
