i have been running for around 5 years now... i'm 20

i do on average 10k a day for 5 days a week during the summer and tennis inbetween.

Ever since it got cold and i went to university and the stupid people and city do not plow sidewalks or roads i have been forced to run oin tread mills... ia te them... i do around 3 miles in 25 min session including cool down.

some musts are:

A.) good pair of shoes... i swear by Newbalance... the lighter the better and one that will not bend in the middle of the shoe. If you do a loto f pavement running... get a pair that has more padding on the ball and heal of the shoe... as aposed to more sprint type where only the heal has a little padding.

b.) don't buy nike airs... especailly foot locker ones... if u do get nikes goto running store and see what they ahve. FOOT Locker shoes are show only .

c.) if you have having blisters... an old tennis trick is to get a pair of your gfs.. old pantyhose... cut the thing off so that it is only ankle high. put those on... and then put your socks over it.

d.) you maybe able to get some of the aching out by taking some potassium before a run... a bannana... the aching maybe to due to the strain on the muscles near your knees... whcih will cuase you to compensate for them and take awkard strides

c.) make sure you do cool down and warm ups... start by going slow for atleast 2 mins... stop...s tretch... and build up speed...

when running don't run at continuous speeds all the time... start slow... go fast... slow fast... slow... that is more effective then trying to run at medium speed for 10kms vs slow and fast for 10kms.

d.) finally ! if it hurts stop! that means your body is hurt.. it needs time to heal... jogging is one of the most puinshing sports out there... each new stride means the body must stop itself and reacclerate it.

sorry for the long post

One thing about the socks. Thicker doesn't mean better. It depends more on the material than thickness. My running socks are actually pretty thin.

I ran xcountry back in high school, even got a scolarship for it huh go figure. anyway you probably hurt because of the cold weather but I think that it is good that you got new shoes. just one suggestion though, you should try to eat as many bannanas as you can so that you do not cramp up also do a cool down run and streatch when you are finished otherwise your muscles will become very tight :smirk:
