ok im puttin a s5 engine into an 86 and i dont plan on running any acessories and i was wondering if i would have to run the air pump to open the 6th ports? any ways to avoid using air pump?

Yes on an S5 you need the air pump to open the VDI and the 6 ports. There is a way to do it with an RMP switch and an air compressor. There is a write-up on the other forum. Go to the 2nd gen section, its stickied at the top of the page.
