No Trailing Spark On 87 Turbo
#1
I have an 87 turbo and the trailing coil will not fire after the engine starts. It fires one time upon turning the engine over. I have checked all the grounds on it. Checked power to the unit, checked for continuity between the wires and the ECU, swapped in a different crank angle sensor. tried 3 coil packs. tried a new ECU, and no luck whatsoever. Any ideas? Thanks

The trailing coil pack (or just the ignitor) might be dead.
The main relay that controls power to the trailing coil also controls power going to the leading coil, fuel injectors, and most of the solenoids.
If you double-check wiring and find nothing wrong, the coil pack may need to be replaced.
The bad news, these things are stupid expensive from the Mazda dealer.
The good news, they are easy to find used and very economical.
Check eBay.
