I just rebuilt/installed an 89 engine in my 87. I kept the 87 sensors, but all of the metal is 89. The problem is, even with 95-105 compression on all sides, my car seems to shake like it has a baaad vac. leak. The T2 high tension lead does not spark. I was wondering if this would be a cause. Also, the rear rotor seems to be running leaner then the front by looking at the carbon on the plugs. I plugged a vac. line that sits on the lower intake, between the two oil injectors. Does anyone know where this line is suposed to go? the FSM does not show detail of this line on an N/A. Other then the car idling rough, it seems to "miss" on acceleration, but it is all of the time, like it were only running on one injector, even though both injectors make clicking noises. Since the 87 had EGR and the 89 does not, could this change anything?? Thanks!

You're title says no Trailing spark, yet you say you don't have leading spark? I take it you just mean you're not getting any trailing spark. How do you know this? Have you set timing correctly? All the coils on the fc are same between t2 and n/a fyi. Well it could be the wiring to the coils, the ecu, the cas or the coil itself. How old are the spark plug wires? Are they in good shape?

My bad.. I am getting only one trailing spark.. out of the T2 coil. (trailing #2, not turboII The reason I ask about the trailing spark is that my 85 SE runs fine without trailing spark plugs, and I don't know if the 2nd gen is the same case. Does anything recieve a signal off of the trailing coils?? i.e. injectors? My FSM is about 700 miles away, along with the car, so I am just gathering ideas for when I see the ride again.

Tach gets its signal from the trailing coil, thats it. It will run w/o trailing, just be worse on gas mileage and some power all around, mainly on the low end..

Thats what I was thinking. hmm... anyone know about the EGR swap from 87 to 89?? Also, what about the vacuum line from in between the oil injectors on the LIM? It is the one that points up vertically in between the two injectors.

Thanks!

That vac line goes to the front of the throttle body. There are three lines there, the top one is bigger, the line from he LIM goes to the middle nipple.

I don't know if 89 n/as have egr, I knot 89-91 t2s don't.

The nipple on the lim between the oil injectors is for the primary injector bleeds. Some have capped it to no ill effects. Its suppose to help with low air speed atomization of the fuel..

S5 na's don't have the egr passages on the block.

Thanks!!.. I will give this a try and let you know how it works out. Is there anything in addition to the FSM that shows how and why the vacuum system is hooked up the way it is??? I just need a way to reverse engineer the thing to figure out what is going on.

Thanks again!
