When working on my rear I also found that the sticking e-brake caused my pads to wear thin. I replaced the pads and tried lubricating the linkage but the passenger side cable sticks at the caliper. It seams that the mechanism is binding up. I think the spring isn't working properly to release it.

 

Yeah my 88 does that crap too. If I park with the ebreak on when I go to take off I drive down the street and it goes squeak squeak squeak..........annoying as hell. I used to carry a can of WD40 in the car lol

 

My T2 did that also. It just got continually worse untill the brake fully lock at a stoplight in the middle af a highway! I had to dump the clutch at about 5500 RPMs to get it free, but in the process I snapped off my brake pads and tore up my brake rotor. I forget exactly what was wrong but when you change the brake pads (I am assuming you have disc brakes in the rear and not drum) the thingy tht you have to C clamp to to put in the new pads (yea that thing I forget what its called if somebody could put a name to it ) was broken. I had to replace it, that might be the problem on you guys cars. I dunno theres my 2 cents.

The brake seams to work fine. Its the ebrake mechanism that is sticking.
