Sticking Seal

took my 84 to corksport the other day and they said a seal on one rotor was sticking, is there an easy fix for this without haveing to rebuild?

ATF treatment There's differing schools of thought on how good this is, but if your motor is iffy anyway I'd go for it.

I'd never put ATF in any of my engines. I'm also starting to doubt MMO.

eh, if it dont work then a new engine anyway, so might as well, thanks, update ya in a day or two when i try it

What is your reasoning? ATF is obvious, I would never ATF a good motor. You can build compression using regular oil or 2 stroke just as easily. But why are you MMO suspicious as well, Jeff?

The only info I have that makes me doubt MMO is what Long Duck said on the other forum. His GSL-SE appearantly blows lots of smoke at startup now after having done the MMO treatment. The smoke clears by the time it reaches normal operating tempurature.



Two things I find suspect though...



1 he did it in the first place (I thought it was only for carboned-up apex seals) which means his car was already out of tune. I thought he was good at keeping GSL-SEs alive. Interesting turn of events, huh?



2 if his engine smokes that badly now, it is obviously a high mileage engine and should be rebuilt anyway. He says the MMO probably disolved the carbon that was keeping the oil O rings from leaking, or was it the oil seals themselves that he was complaining about? Well, whatever it was, he just keeps ragging on MMO every time it comes up on that forum, and yet he keeps on driving his high mileage engine and sending out a bat screen whenever it's cold.



Rotaries are easy to rebuild. I think he should just save up a little of his exterior mods dough and spend it on a gasket set instead. Have you seen his car? It's yellow with a Mariah Hatch and lots of other hot stuff.



The reason why I'm starting to doubt MMO is because of Long Duck's experience with it on his high milage engine. My 20B is a high mileage engine and had low compression due to carboned-up apex seals. After the MMO treatment, the apex seals move easily in their slots, but I'm affraid the oil O rings might start passing lots of oil now. I guess I'll see sometime soon.

I've used marvel mystery oil to freeup a sticking seal. Its really more of a cleaner than an oil anyay. I just held the motor at part throttle and used a vacuum hose to let the motor suck it in through a nipple on the upper intake manifold. Then I drove the shot out of the car. Problem fixed. I also let the motor injest some water the same way afterwards. They water actually steam cleans the inside of the motor.

Yeah I've done the 'water trick' but I never tried it with MMO..



My engine sat with MMO in it for a long time, previous owner let it sit with MMO while he changed a clutch among other repairs. Ended up taking months on end to finish, but what can you do when you are busy and it's just your 'toy' car.



Anyways my car will puff rather large clouds of blue smoke if I get on the throttle, hit redline, and close throttle. I have a higher mileage engine (120,000 roughly), so I don't expect the oil seals to be in perfect shape. I was very suspicious of my MOP injectors failing and dumping in too much oil.



Previous owner said he also had the puffing problem at high RPM, but I don't think it was as bad as it is now. I am hoping it's just the MOP system now that I have attended to it, but we will see when it's back in the car and running.
