Sticking Right Brake?
#1
I noticed today on my 91n/a that the handling felt a little weird and sluggish. between shifts when the clutch was depressed it seemed something was holding the car back...
When I got home I noticed the right front rim was extremely dirty (after having been washed on sunday)...and smelled a bit. I've yet to pull it apart but I'm guessing the caliper is sticking.
I have to look again but I'm pretty sure it came stock with the 4-piston brakes...
a new 4-piston caliper from Mazdatrix is $400...ouch! (they don't have used)
buuut, a rebuild kit from them is only $25.
anyone have experience with rebuilding a caliper? easy? tough? I'd look into getting a used 4-piston caliper at a junkyard...but none around here have S5's... only base model S4's...
Thanks!

Yeah, its very easy to do. Just make sure you take all the bolts out of the caliper and lift both pieces off so as it wont damage the seal between the two caliper pieces. you also might need to take a screwdriver or something to clean the gunk out of the piston seal recesses.

Wow...what a pain that was! haha...
my dad and I have every tool you could possibly think of and an industrial 150psi air compressor...and all but one piston would barely budge! finally got them out after some unorthodox maneuvering...
they were pretty stuck

so it works good now?
I had one piston sticking on me at one time and I freed it up by cleaning it, been good for about 4 years now like that.

phew...well got them all back on...car feels great! the front end feels so much more free! might have to bleed the brakes once more this weekend...
after thinking I would just have to rebuild the right caliper...after pulling the left one off it was even more crudded up! lol...oh well...new pads, new seals...good to go
during the operation:
Thanks for the suggestions
