20b In A Glc
I think the GSL-SE front springs are the same as the 12A cars. Can anyone confirm this? I'm not sure yet, but I think my RX-7 coils are up to the task of holding the weight of the 20B. They were fine with the 13B and a group size 24 battery up front behind the headlight.

Thanks Mike! Yeah, I was a little suprised myself at how well it fit. I was basically blindly cutting the firewall with just a rough outline I traced around the bellhousing when the tranny was in there. Those pics show the first time I've ever tried to fit the engine in there. What suprised me even more is that the stock LIM actually fits. It's possible the UIM might contact the hood latch, and the TB elbow might hit the brake reservoir. I'd still rather go with a carb because it's less complex, and I'm not looking for maximum power (I'm not sure the car could handle it).
I think the Atkins manifold would get too hot even NA with a heat shield. There's so little room for a proper header, so one of the pipes arcs up pretty high. The fuel lines would also have to be rerouted. I want to use the Atkins manifold for the possibility of going supercharged some day, but other things ought to be upgraded first, like the rearend. I'll need to get the tranny and engine in there together before I'll know which manifold to use.

from memory the gsl-se has a different strut housing (the spindle is longer), a frimer shock but the same spring.

Ah, so Mazda DID save money by using the same springs. That means I could get -SE spindles and rotors, right? Or just -SE rotors and calipers?

Sometimes I think of getting a fuel only ECU. Which ECU would you guys recommend? All I'd need is another UIM and TB, I think. Once I get the engine and tranny in place, I'll know what my options are.

Dellortos need vaccum but the weber DCOE has no need for it.I should know I have had both now.Yeah I read on this one website that if you use the FB's springs on your GLC it gives the car a 1" drop from stock to stock springs.Imagine aftermarket 1" drop springs like my FB has.That would be a 2" drop on you tiny box.

fuel only ecu's are wierd, they are usually priced so they dont make a lot of sense. ie a microtech is $1000, and sds fuel only is like 600-800, or an f10 haltech is like 600-800.
i'm not sure of any off the bat that will run sequential injection, on a v6, i'll keep my eye open though

I'll be able to afford an Atkins manifold or a stock UIM soon. I guess the question would then be whether I want a four barrel, or a two barrel.
Decent gas mileage (heh yeah right) and good low end on a four barrel with instant throttle response (it says it has a big accelerator pump shot) and a fairly decent AF ratio going to each rotor via the Atkins manifold and a tall carb spacer. I already have the carb and can build an adaptor to make up the distance between it and the manifold that an SC would normally take up. Oh, and the future looks good for a supercharger. I even have an oil return in the rear plate so I won't need to drill my front cover.
The only downsides will be having to reroute the fuel lines (not a major problem), building a heat shield (I was going to do that anyway), possibly reshaping the high arched middle rotor's exhaust pipe (just a possibility for now since the engine still needs to be installed properly; I can't start tacking it together yet), and the passenger's foot area may need to be hammered in by an inch or so (lol). Lastly, the manifold is so large and low that access to the exhaust will be limited. This means the intake will have to come off before any exhaust work can be performed, engine removal etc. Luckily, I don't have any dumb coolant holes in the rotor housings.

Also, the quite long runners could make up for having less low end, but the tradeoff is a little throttle response (or a lot maybe?). I'd have easy access to the exhaust and the idler arm. The header could be shaped really oddly and still fit.
I'm still not sure if the UIM will clear the hood latch. I'm also still not sure if fuel will puddle inside the UIM. The carb may end up hitting the oil filler tube and/or the brake master cylinder.
Although there are less negatives about putting a two barrel on the UIM, there are also less positives too.

Basically any carb. With their 9" SC on it, it's got a square bore for Holley and Edelbrock. I already have an Edelbrock 750CFM carb, so I should be fine if I ever get their SC. In the mean time, all I've gotta do is get some aluminum stock and build a carb spacer.

I think I've got a break in the weather. Maybe I can fire up the MG in a few minutes? All I've got left to do is wire the fan to the relay and the thermocouple er uh thermostatic switch. Then it's check-for-leaks time.
