I'm looking for a transmission to swap onto my 84 GSL...and I noticed a vehicle model called "85 mixed" on a trasmission list...it appears to have the same ratios on all of the gears as mine except for 5th which is a .697...if I'm currently running a .807 would acquiring one of those trannys give me better gas mileage?

heres is a link to the tranny specs page

http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/tranchrt.txt

I'm pretty sure mine is the "84p" since the only other 84's are auto or gsl-se

and on 85 I see the "85" "85 gsl-se" and "85 mixed"

I'm asking because I have an 85 GSL with a transmission that was rebuilt shortly before its engine blew...and since my birthday is coming up...and the thing is just collecting dust...i was gonna check and see if it would increase my gas mileage any...anyone know how to tell which model i have so i can find out what the tranny is?

I wrote to felix and he told me that the 85 mixed is an 85 trasmission with a 5th gear set from a gxl...so now...is a gxl a 2nd gen?...and if so is this going to be a hard thing to do? I don't mind getting oil and grease all over the place...just don't like it when things are overly complicated

and how does the 3rd gear compare from a gxl to the one we have in the 1st gens? It's always seemed that the 3rd gear has been a bit wide...but perhaps its just me
