Mine showed up today. Anyone know what brand this wastegate is?
Any comments or Opinions are welcome. |

I have not heard many incouraging words about these manifolds but i was on a budget and I will give it an honest go. If it cracks then I will be sure to let the forum know.

I am thinking about getting rid of the wastgate on here if I have any problems with boost creep and trying out this one that cheapturbo.com is selling..

http://store4.yimg.com/I/cheapturbo_1795_107027 Honestly, I think the wastegate that came with the kit will work fine, especially considering that the autochrome manifold places the gate near the airstream going under the car. An ebay vendor I spoke to about the gate said they have been using it for months without a problem. Bear in mind I told him I was shopping it against a more expensive Tial gate that he had in stock. Your compressor housing looks very nice. Makes me wish I got mine polished;) |

That is the new Tial 44mm. I hope you're not in a hurry to get it because it is backordered to god knows when. I have been waiting 2 weeks so far.

Bout time. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
If you have ANY problems with ANYTHING, be sure to pick up the phone. Actually.. Do your best to crack that manifold, I'd love to see it first hand! The wastegate is made by Applied Racing Development. Supposedly a subsidiary of HKS, but I have NO idea. It's working great on all the cars it's on so far! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |

If the one I have works then I will be happy with that.

If I know Dave, he'll prolly take the compressor wheel out and polish the ******* blades LOL.
Good **** Dave, turbo looks beautiful. |
Nah I am fine with the polishing. I haven't been much into polishing lately anyhow. Some bolts were not supplied with the kit Justin. I should have no problem getting them from the truevalue.

Dave, remember the compressor housings position can be manipulated if needed. Just loosen the 6 13mm bolts on the back of it and you can spin it around. DAMN that looks SAWEEEEET. It'll run like a MOFO. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
I run an HKS wastegate of similar design Davipoo. No issues.
|
The wastegate looks like an HKS standard. 40mm valve, but with a 32 outlet. I think it's to small personally. I used it and had really bad boost creep. The 50mm version would be a much better match.

Another question, anyone think that I will have issues If I remove the metal hard line for the heater core that runs along the fender there and use just straight up hose instead of the metal jonx? I will get better clearance with that line outta the way so I intend to not use it there. Also where does one hook up a boost controller to a single?
|
i would leave the metal line it won't get hard like the rubber will from all that heat!
the boost controller hooks up to the vacuum nipple on the wastegate |
now im ******* jealous

no, theres a heater line down there too. it's the one that runs form the water neck to the heater core.

That metal hard line is an A/C line that is going to the evaporator, not a heater hose. Do you have your A/C still? If so then bend it a little or just leave it alone.

on the wastegate, there should be a port on the top, and a port on the side. the port on the top of the wastegate needs to be connected to the outlet of the boost controller. the side port needs to run to a T, with one line hooked to the inlet of the boost controller, and the other to the charge pipe.

the intercooler pipe, it needs a source that is boost only, not boost/vacuum

Apex'i has the manual for the AVC-R online. It has diagrams of how to hook it up with the different wastegate types.
Even if you don't have an AVC-R, the plumbing diagrams still apply. AVC-R manual |
looks good fro the pics, just foolow up with more feedback/numbers!

Well Demetrios Karagiannis is a local and I strong armed him into tunning the car for me. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I will assume that he is just going to street tune it. BUt if he would like to put my car on a dyno and do it up real nice I would pay the bill. I doubt that will happen though. He is a busy guy and I am just happy he is taking some time to help a local grease monkey out. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png I will most certainly tell you what the butt dyno results are.

Mmm, I miss my single turbo FD now. I had to reposition my heater line there too. I left the metal line in, but rigged it so it was out of the way. Then I nearly overheated the car after loosing coolant when I did it and didn't burp the system enough...memories.

Pull Your comp. cover off and have it tapped for the non vac boost source for the boost controller. I have My kit just installed and am just tuning it right now. I got rid of the heater hose and capped it. The WG will fine for 18 plus psi. My vband clamp I had is not sealling so I hope Ron gets Me another soon. The mani is much louder then the thick mild steel one I was using with the T-72. I will let You Guys know how it feels in comparison.
We should all compare maps once We get tuned. I started with Dragons T04R map and pulled some timing and added fuel. I am running a mix of C12 with premium for a mixture of about 96. My water injection will be turned on shortly after I get the fuel close. |
1. find a pressure source as close to the turbo as possible. Some turbos even have a nipple on the compressor housing.
2. run a line off the pressure source nipple and fork it into two lines. 3. connect 1 of the 2 lines to the bottom of the wastegate-this line pushes air pressure into the bottom of the gate and forces it open when the air pressure exceeds the wastegate spring rating. 4. If you are using an electronic boost controller connect the 2nd line to a solenoid and connect the solenoid to the top of the wastegate. By regulating the air going into the top of the gate the solenoid increases or decreases the spring rate that the pressure generated by line #1 must overcome. |
Excellent diagram!

Another diagram.. Just for fun (your's is cleaner)

Following up. I was able to order the 120 elbow from Gotham today (thanks for the tip Chris C.) (oh and Ihor for calling me back) I was able also to find one nipple small enough to tap the compressor housing for the boost controller. I took the greddy elbow to a local fabricator and he is welding the BOV flange on for $100 (remind me to buy a TIG and retire early) Problems I still face, I still need the nipples for the wastegate that I got from DaVinchi, they forgot those too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png If I can manage to find those and Dee is available on Sunday to tune it up(trying to avoid rain) then I just might be able to get the car to rotorfest. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif
|
Those nipples are common pipe thread so they should be easy to find. They come with most boost controllers also.
Good luck with the tunning and have fun at Rotorfest. |
if ever my kit actually gets to me...... i hope its complete

$100 to weld on a flange?

Anyway I looked all over town for those nipples so I might come up short. Also I still have no V band. |
Thats ******* rediculous. I would have told the guy to **** himself. I got qouted $35 at 1 place and $20 at another. You got fucked hard man. Brian ended up welding my flange on my elbow for free.
