To add things to the mix...

I was at the dealership out here talking to one of the salesmen and he told me that the RX-7 thats supposedly coming out will be a vert model and that his "inside info" was that it will have the option of a 3 rotor NA (if it makes emissions) or a 2 rotor turbo. But this was the same guy that told me the Mazda 6 could keep up with a 350Z.

ok there is too much bs fly'n around this post, i just wanna say that nobody should take any of this info to heart. With these new pics of the new rx7 ive seen about 10 different concept models. I highly doubt that mazda would release a vert rx7, just based on the fact that it makes no sense. That would kill their miata sales big time, or kill the rx7 sales, nobody would like that, rx7 owners miata owners alike. From what ive heard i dont think the new rx7 is going to have anything to do with the rx8. Cept for a turbo model engine i think its ganna be a twin turbo at that maken over 300hp, im also going to add that its going to directly compete with a new 350ztt model and from what ive heard a new toyota supra. There is no hard data backing any of this up, just my 2 cents

I like the first, red rx-7 pic, but the orange one's front looks fugly. With Nissan and their plans for a 350z tt as well as using the same platform to market a Skyline GTR TT AWD, supposed to have over 400hp, coming out 2007, and these rumors Ive heard of the new Supra, (as well as some of the uber-wagens with 400 and 500+ hp that Porsche, BMW, and Merc-Benz are producing), Mazda better have some tricks up their sleeves. IMHO a normally aspirated 2-rotor, even at 1.5 L, probably wont be able to contend with these cars, barely in HP, and nowhere close in torque. So either the RX-7 better be almost Elise-lightweight, or gain a turbo or SC. Altho Id love to see a 20B 3-rotor option, even NA, I doubt that itd make a whole lot of sense from a business point of view.

these are just things that you just have to wait til it's right infront of you. With all the gossip and publicity, who knows which ones are true.

The March 2004 issue of Motor Trend mentions, "there will be a supercharged RENESIS in the Mazdaspeed version of the RX-8." So chock one up for forced induction. I'd say it'd be coming in about a year if motor trend is commenting on it right now; which would also mean that the project is far enough that they would comment on it.
