Rx-8 Engine & Tranny Cost?
#11
Do you think the 210hp version doesn't have the high rpm intakes or has them and just doesn't open them? When they did the original testdrive and the gate was stuck they said it was running fundementally like the the lower version. I'd imagine that it'd be cheaper for mazda just to make one engine than two and just reprogram the computer not to open it. In which case it might be possible to get the third vent open on automatic. This might not be the case but i can't think of any other reason why the two engines and the two model lines are priced so similiarly with such a wide difference in performance.

"The Renesis has two states of tune, dictated by the nature of its intake tract.
The Standard-Power version delivers intake air to the primary side port and , via a shutter valve, to a secondary side port.
The High-Power version adds an auxiliary intake port adjacent to the secodnary one.
Both systems have a variable intake valve in the primary/secondary tract. The High-Power version adds a variable fresh-air duct upstream of the aircleaner."

I remember reading that mazda does not offer the auto equiped cars with the extra port because the slush box cannot rev high enough to utilize it.

Why did they use a weaker tranny?? That's a little disapointing.
