Should Intake Port Open Progressively Or Abruptly?

I am in the process of rebuilting s5 n/a with a mild street port in mind using stock airflow metre and ECU, custom long primery header collect at rear axle.
I wonder what will happen to the power/torqre band, if intake port open progressively? what about if the intake port open abruptly at once? I am aim to get good street power.
also how about port closing? same as intake opening?
thanks
Ben

I cannot see what it is you are talking about. Can you give me an example of abrupt vice progressive?
Thank you.

Unless you do some very strange voodo its going to be hard to open the intake anything other than abruptly. The shape of the port along the opening side (by the water o rings) is pretty much exactly the same shape as the rotor is when it moves past this area. Since there is only a few mm to deal with your not going to change that angle much at all.
So yeah, not sure what your talking about

I believe this pic is of Mazdaspeed7,
the stock plate on the right, the aux port open at once, (to me anyways); and on the left plate, the aux port opens more progressively.
this is just an example, not neccessory will be my port.
like a rubber band, will air generate more speed if you pull it at once or porgressively faster? am I making any sense? or am I on something
thanks
below is not the pic i attatched, ???

How does a side seal not fall into that?
That was an extreme example, just for to answer what Lynn was asking.
Of course, that is not what I will do.
I can't remember whose porting was.
Anyways, I think I am to warding not change the opening timing of this rebuild, maintain how intake opens from factory.
Other thing I am wondering about is, I was temped to open early on the 5/6 ports, then I got worry if I do so; will the stock intake manifold becomes a bottle neck? (Length wise) I heard others commenting on a need for a new manifold to take advantage of an early intake open. Plus the trailing side seal will not be fully supported if I open as early as the primary and secondary @32 ATDC. Please excuse me for thinking out loud
