i don't like sandblasting engine parts. they take forever to clean that crap out and i'm afraid of having leftover sand in the engine. that's why i like the walnuts--soak them in water for an hour or two, then blow them out and you're good to go.

I like the walnut method too.

I suppose not everyone can spend a couple hundred bucks on coatings, however if someone wanted to do it and make it last, I don't think half assing it is the way to go. Bomb can enamels and such offer little or no protection against oil, gas, and general debris contamination, in addition, most people are not in the habit of maintaining the engine bay and undercarriage on a regular basis.

I realize that some people depend on thier car as a means to make a living and cannot afford to have that much down time or spend the extra money, to which I would suggest not painting anything at all, leave it unpainted and clean it more often. If someone wanted to trick the engine out, pony up for the coatings that will last and spend a little more time maintaining them.

the good thing about unpainted engines is you can use some really harsh chemicals to clean them.

but to date, i think i've only put 3 motors together without paint. and 2 of them were renesis and we just didn't want it to scream rebuilt--in case we needed any warranty work done down the road.
