Can the exhaust sleeve on a 12a be removed?

Has anyone removed the exhaust sleeve on a 12a? Im going for a wild SP rebuild maybe BP not sure yet but I'm not sure if these sleeves can come out!

You can take them out but its not the best . Hole becomes very big . Sleeve is there to sheild housing from exhaust gases.
