3 Mm Seals And Street Port

Apex Seals:
Stock Seals-Are made of a cast iron and are both strong and versatile. Good for most applications including turbo motors.
Carbon-Strong, rielable and great for high reving [/b]naturally aspirated motors, but not suited for turbo charging.
Ceramic-I think the idea behind the ceramic seals is that they are supposed to hold up better, under the higher stress/heat conditons associated with turbo charging, but their very expensive and have yet to prove any better then stock when it comes to detonation.

did they change the seals in 2002? Cuz the tuner from japan is saying they did... and that i'll be getting the engine with the new seals...
I think i did hear something about different seals in 2002 on the forum too....if yes how good are they..

If that's the case then your better off.
The stock seals will seal well and if you do all your tunning right they should also last.
Anyhow I personally wouldn't pay some guy i never met from over-see's for some exotic seals that I haven't seen and won't be able to tell if they were put in or not.
Theres really no way to check that unless your planning on taken the thing apart.

From what I've been able to gather the, stock seals ARE very reliable when placed in a well tuned engine. I have also heard that the Ceramics are MUCH more resistant to detonation and last much longer than the stock seals. One person reported re-using them on a very high mileage engine for a rebuild due to another problem. Just what I've picked up. So, if you can do the rebuild yourself OR have a great hook up OR know a master tuner AND have complete faith in the supporting elements not to fail (fuel pump, injectors, etc.) than there is no need to waste your money on the high priced ceramics. For the rest of us "better safe than sorry" mortals.........well, lets just say I'm looking for a good place to get my ceramic seals from right now. Anyone got a number or link?

ceramic seals are a dangerous option... if they blow, they'll take out everything, not just the rotor, the housing and the plate, but they are so hard that u need to worry about the turbo getting destroyed as well

the question is what is the likelihood if them blowing, from what I know its like 1/1000, they are more durable, they dont wear and make groves in the housing and they take detonation very well. So with those spec it doesnt really matter how bad it will be if they blow because the odds are they wont.
option1:
get stock seals, have them blow on you 5 times in X amount of time, Z$ for repairs every time. $Z times (5)
option2:
get ceramics, have them blow 1 time in X amount of time, pay $(3)Z for remairs. $(3)Z times 1
option 2 seems better to me. You might pay 3 times more for repairs but will have to do it so rearly if ever that the amount of money you will spend with stock seals in the long run will be more. Not the mention the down time every time you have to fix your ****.
maybe its just me but the ceramics seem like a way better deal.
