guys,

My car is not a daily driver but i want it to be a civilized racer.... I am getting an engine from japan... i have the option to have it ported and get 3mm seals.. although it is costing me alot.... but i want the car to be reliable at atleast 400hp.... i will run in the engine with the stock turbos and then go for a single turbo....

I need to know does street porting or 3mm seals hurt the idle.... will the car idle normally.... also with 3mm seals and a good as new engine how much booost will i be able to run if i put in a GT35/40 turbo kit?

Also has anybody here heard of DO-racing... and TE-Works from Japan?

Why would you get an engine from Japan? There are great engine builders in the states too.

Good point jspec. Why not give your money to Judge Ito? He's in the US, many recomendations here on the forum, and if you have a problem you talk to him at a decent hour.

I know... but the problem is that i am all the way in pakistan... and my car is a 99 model which was japan only....

any feedback on the seals and porting

also how much would an engine with 3mm seals and street porting cost me from the states without me sending my core... i can have it shipped to a friend in the states from there he can ship it to me so shipping only for the states...

ahhh...that's right. We always just assume that people are from the states.

Well, there is NO difference between the 93 to 02 engine core. Only the turbos.

I'd run 15 psi(1 kg/cm2) boost on the engine....it'll be reliable and fun. Also, porting doesn't really make the car idle horrible. Just slightly higher(mine is set at 940~rpms)

There should be no problems with your idle.

I wouldn't throw your cash away on 3mm apex seals though.

Save your money for a good tuner instead.

3mm seals break just as easily as the 2mm seals.

If it pings (detonates) the seal is still gonna break reguardless.

If you plan on doing a single turbo you will need the ported engine.

I would get it ported but stick with the stock apex seals.

If tuned properly they are just as strong if not stronger than an other seal..

I've got 3mm seals and I've had no problem from them yet, but alot of the guys recommend 2mm. Up to you.

The only upside that I know of is that the ceramic seals are "softer" than the stock ones and are supposed to not trash the rotor and housing when they break. A stock seal breaks.. all hell breaks loose in the combustion chamber.\
