Well, you have a bigger engine to start with, so there's more potential. The cost of the swap is more than the cost of the turbo kit, and you get about 60 fewer horses with the EJ20 in stock form. When it all comes down to it, if you want to get major power, assuming you can find a transmission to handle it, you are going to do internal engine mods on either engine, so for more low end power, you're better off with the bigger engine running lower boost.

The aftermarker support for the EJ20 is a big plus, though.

I'm also looking at the Audi A4 Quattro with the 1.8T, which is less powerful than the Scoob, weighs in at 100 pounds lighter, and is easier as far as engine mods. Any other suggestions are welcome...I have a lot of time to do my homework.

I don't see any point in putting in the WRX motor, other than ease of finding parts. There are plenty of EJ25 tuners out there if you look, including JUN.

Golfs can be made to be pretty impressive performers, but I'm looking for something AWD...for fun in the snow.

A4 1.8T may have less hp on paper, but it makes alot more torque. From what I hear, all it takes is a chip to get it close to 200 hp.
