I started a gauge pod on the dash of my eclipse sorta like this. I totalled the car before I finished it, but my method seemed sound. I threw down some sheets of plastic (you can get it outside of Lowe's for free. They use it to line peoples trunks for messy items. Use duct tape to secure it. Cover up EVERYTHING you don't want to get ruined including the windshield. Next spray some water down on it and shoot a can of expanding foam insulation (available at Lowe's or Walmart for $5 a can). Spray it with water as you shoot out the foam. The water helps it set up faster and stronger. Be careful because the blob of foam will tend to run down hill. Prop the lower part of the plastic up with a piece of cardboard until it dries. Once it is completely dried, remove it all and start sculpting it with exacto knifes and sand paper. This is the dirtiest part. Now that you have it how you want it use body filler, more foam, or whatever you want to smooth out the rough sports. Throw some fiberglass on it and so on from there. I have lots of pics on my phone, but I don't have a cable to connect it to my computer. I hope that helps, Ryan.

that leaves you with a chunk of foam, about 1/4 way to making the mold, then you still have to make the part, but I would like to see the pictures.

I never really intended to use it as a mold. I just used it as the foundation for the piece. All of the pics I have are on my phone. If you have a cable I can borrow or live near Tampa, I'd be happy to show you. I seemed to have misplaced the piece itself, but if I can find it I'll shoot some pics of it. Ryan.
