I will "soon" be painting my "gold" seven white. the hood is already noble white but i am going to Crystal white, which is almost pure white.



i am also shaving my side moldings using fiberglass. the guy at the paint shop said that i should only prime and sand the areas that i fiberglass, and i should seal the rest so that i geta continuos color across the car.



when i do paint it i plan to do it all in one day starting in the early morning until it is finished. i will be doing it in an enclosed outdoor environment (tarps and such) i believe, should i worry about temperature???



any tips on painting from experience?? should i use dry ice on my small door dings?? i have a small rust spot or two, what is the best way to get rid of rust and seal it from coming back???

are u going to be using a oxgyen mask, or ventilating the place? And i believe paints need certain temps to stick etc.

the guy said that 12 hours was the Maximum set time for all coats, he said 15 minutes between coats minimum. I admittedly have no clue what I am doing, the guy who is letting me use his stuff has some good experience. he will be assisting me, but i am trying to dig up as much info as possible. I will be painting one of my spare hoods first for practice.



any advice is more than welcome. and Banzai if you want to come do it for me for free, that is welcome as well :bigthumg:

I used to paint for the navy... put down a good base of primer after making sure the surface is real clean. make sure you keep the spray gun about 8 inch away and level dont do the karate kid thing with you hand either keep it locked straight. make a pass with the primer then back the other way..over lap the first pass about an inch do that back and forth. let dry over night...and keep the temp over 68 70 is better. now are you using drying lamps?

I used to work in a body shop. It's better to paint when it's hot outside or with heat lamps. The clearcoat will shine and stick better. Before you even primer the car you should sand whatever you're gonna paint with fine grit sandpaper so the paint has something to grab onto. Best thing to do about rust is to grind it off. Be careful when putting on the clearcoat cause it runs really easy when oversprayed. Have some razors handy just incase it happens. Compound the car when the clearcoat dries and it should like crispy.

HE SAID NOT TO USE PRIMER!!!! sorry everybody seemed to overlook that and that was one of the things i am sketchy about. he said using a sealer will help make my white hood turn out the same color as my gold car. any validity/experince with this???
