Im sure they charge you to get the plane back home, the guy isnt going to sit there and wait for you to get done shopping?

There also has to be more of a charge, I doubt they would get the flight plan, fuel it up, fly you and 3 other people paying for insurance, all for $70.

your also aware your not allowed to fly over the city right?

first off, total roundtrip from KILG would be around an hour max. the airplane rental is 70 bucks per hour (fuel included).

secondly, i am a pilot... no need to pay someone when i do it myself on a weekly basis. the plane will wait for me, and will not fly off without me being the pilot.

as for ramp fee's, parking/tie down fees; i am not required to pay for any of it because the aircraft i fly is a military registered airplane. one tank of gas and im good for 4 hours. so no need to refuel at other airports other than my home field. that and fuel is included in the hourly price... which i magically pump myself.

I file and activate my own flight plans. why? it only takes 5 seconds and it's for safety.

because i belong to an aero club, i pay 25 bucks a month for dues... this covers your insurance.. those who fly with you are required to sign a covenant not to sue form, and they are covered under some sort of an umbrella..

so you see, it is possible to do it cheaply, and fun.

your not? you sure?

when you plan on traveling this close to nyc, you are under new york approach control. grab a sectional and check it out...

approach will vector you where/how they want you to get to your location within their (class B) airspace. if they tell you to cruise 10 feet directly over the empire state building; your *** better be right over the empire state building exactly 10 feet over the top. they will direct you where you need to go, how they want, in accordance with faa regulations and the other traffic nearby. it doesn't matter what the **** you want.. they OWN you...

if you go to the city and look up, you'll see air traffic regularly overflying the city. jets, helicopters.. all sorta ****.

granted you can't just run off like a bird and fly wherever the **** you want...

but one more thing. their airspace at the core runs from the surface up to around 7,000 ft. this means you can fly directly over the city at 7,001 ft. or above.

you think new york is bad? look at dc.. you will see a no fly zone... and a lot more

Well i only wanted the strike becuse i have two finals on the same day and was left with 1 day to study. But this is really hurting the city. The city of New York is loosing over $400,000,000 a day. Thats an insane amount of money man. I guess im selfish for wanting to save time for a test while people who need to work or else they dont get paid suffer. The union is asking for a 8% raise every year for 3 years, thats 24% thats too much money. They also want to keep there retirement at the 52 age, which is pretty low. I truly dont know why they are bitching about that. They should at least get 3-4% every year like a normal job but 8% is a lil high. These people have good pay starting out at $50,000, which many college grads dont even make right now working cause the job market sucks in nyc, and i guess in the rest of the country too.

I agree with both sides and disagree, because the MTA did have a set of books hidden with a big *** surplus that they did not show, and they used the loss in there other book to raise the FARE!. So thats kinda fucked up that they did that, but if they put the $$$ in the other books to transportation upgrades like new trains , track rehabilitation etc then i guess its fine.

Well i just hope the strike last till wednesday thats when i got my two finals for my Transportation / Highway Engineering class and my Environmental Engineering Class. =)

Happy Holidays to everyone!.

MERRY XMAS

ETC!!!

I think those numbers are just made up by some guy in a room:

Hmmm, NYC are having a transit strike, I think that will cost 400 Million dollars a day, yes that sounds good.

so YOU can fly for $70, regualar people cannot

And I still do not think that just anyone can fly over the city anymore. You see helicopters and other planes, but Im pretty sure they have special permits or whatever.

They are not just going to let anyone fly over the city now

"so yeah me and my friends are going into the city for shopping, mind if we do a fly-by over the empire state building?"

control: "you can go ahead, as long as your not a terrorist and you stay over 7000'- your not a terrorist right?"
