F that man search around for businesses in your area then ask them if they have any old laptops they want to get rid of. I bought a Toshiba Satelite for 50 bucks and it now runs my haltech with no problems. Then you can use the rest of the money to buy a real computer. YOu don' t want to have to disconnect and reconnect the haltech every time you get in and out of the car, it gets annoying.

ahhh... I didn't see that one post above that said it wouldn't just be for tuning...

The Macs are nice, but I have a feeling that it might be a pain to get VirtualPC to see that USB serial port as a regular serial port in Virtual PC

I run one of these every day and it totally kicks ***. It's small, light, fast and pretty inexpensive. I carry it around when I'm traveling and don't go easy on it (company laptop.. ) and it seems pretty damn sturdy so far. It also doesn't have a serial port (getting rare on laptops these days), but I use a USB serial port dongle thingie and haven't had anything not work on it yet (use it mostly to connect to serial ports on headless Sun Servers to get to the console.

That's a pretty nice looking laptop. The only complaints I would have about it is the screen size and video card.

To me, that's where the Apple dominates the market in terms of price-performance. The one I've been looking at is $1500 and has half as much RAM, but a 15" screen and a 64mb DDR video card.
