I've always wondered why #4 wouldn't work.

Think about it this way. You have a pump (your heart) in the bottom of a swimming pool (your body) pumping water (blood) through a hose (veins) back into the pool. Where the hose re-enters the pool there is a restriction, such as a filter (clogged atery). This causes the water to back up in the hose, creating pressure. So you disconnect the hose (cut yourself) to relieve the pressure, then reconnect it back to the filter (bandage it up). The pump is still pumping, the restriction is still there. It was only a fix while the hose was disconnected. As soon as the hose was reconnected there was still a restriction, causing pressure.

Now if you were to cut off your hand and leave it off, not bandage it or anything, then yes, it would relieve the pressure, assuming that is where the restriction is. However your pool would surely run out of water, and you would surely die.

Replace "cucumber" with "*****".
