Thumbs up

I have a 89 GTU that has a engine that is on its last leg. My buddy is giving me is 87 T2 that has a body that is all fucked up. but the engine is good under 50k on it. know i think it is the S4 motor and i think that the engine i have in my car is the S5 i think. now what i wanted to know is it a hard swap to do because im going form a S5 to a S4. is the wiring different. i need to know more about this. if someone want to get me the good word about it, it would be nice

you SHOULD swap everything

the full drivetrain

diff, driveshaft, tranny, motor, everything.

as for bolting up, im not sure differences between s4 and s5s.

but dont you dare swap a tii motor into a car with an n/a drivetrain. youll regret it.. eventually..

youll have to use the engine wiring harness and everthing from the tII its all different between s4 and s5 not to mention between na and turbo. Basicly everything related to that motor has to go with it into the 89. As far as it going in itll bolt right up.

the pros of a standalone is it will come with new wiring harness and you wont have to reuse brittle old wires and things that may fail it also allows you to better tune the engine. The cons would probaly getting it tuned after installing it all.
