Alright, I am about to start an LS1 transplant into an 89 GTU....Benefits...the LS1/t56 with an aluminum hood will weight LESS then the stock rotary engine and tranny...have you guys weight one lately.....LS1=ALL ALUMINUM....Competition valve springs, heads, rods, and a few other goodies and my redline will be set at to limit at 7200 cut at 7600...The car set me back 500 the motor 3500 the kit 800...I still need a torsen rear end and mufflers & cats and some minor stuff I am planning all this for 7K then a paint job.. It IS NOT a rotary it is a light weight import married with an american V8...the first guy to do this was carrol shelby and for anyone who has driven the results of his work..(My father did in his younger days...) they know he did a hell of a job. (Cobra held the record for fastest 0-100-0 time for decades till hennessey's vipers.) Do you think the fans of the Sunbeam tiger were pround of this...Now I am leaving the lure of the rotary realm which is sad and for a hard core wankel man it might be unbearable....I like rotaries, I LOVE ford...and Chevrolet produces the best engines that will fit complete into an RX-7...plus are VERY easy to change by the way a friend has an LT1 rx-7...After christmas when the project is complete I will post more and this spring I will post times. I plan conservatively to get 500hp out of the 350 I'm sure more if I wanted too..it has forged pistons and they seem to love 200hp shots of nitrous...People are impressed to get 300 out of a rotary and 500 is unheard of unless you have a purpose built race car. I'll trade 1500 rpms or so for the 5.7 plus its pretty cool and besides I want the ultimate sleeper....see you at the track...

I eat 500HP Factory Five Cobra kit cars for breakfast at the Autocross. Its not all about HP and your about to find out the expensive way. Your car will make a perfect burnout contest car.

Are you running the stock Corvette ECU. Driveshaft? Is that part of the $700 kit?

Radiator?? I am curious how this all comes together.

I am very happy with my 80c.i. 375HP RX-7 that is tuned conservativly. I am impressed that an 80c.i. engine can produce so much power THAT is waht impresses me any shmo can get 500HP out of a v-8. You say you like rotaries I say you really don't or else you would take that 7K your spending and build a rotary car. I like V-8 power too and if I wanted a Cobra I would buy a cobra.

Good luck. I would imagine you budget will hit the 10K mark before you are done.

You have no idea what kind of rotary monster I could build for 10K.

Its all about the Horsepower.

i know where I can get a 3 rotor for 2400 bucks, with twins, complete intake, all injectors, even ecu. o ya, and it has 18,000 miles (verified by odometer from the clip it came out of) once i'm out of debt (couple more months) i'm gonna grab it and set it to the side for the next time i need a motor.

My wolf 4.0 will support it as well, so I won't even have to touch anything outside my engine bay. I'd say the totoal swap would cost me about 4 grand, then imonna come lookin for you rotary haters.

We got a guy here in Japan with a stock port 20B in an FC/Tec III/T-76 turbo with over 600 rwhp to the wheels.

Said he'd keep the cost below $15000 including the price of the car(It also has a guru transmission)...and he did it.

V8 swaps are neat...but guarantee if it's about HP to $$$ savings... V8 = lose.

i don't knwo about that...i mean, you buy a fc with a blown engine, lets jsut say for 1000 cause the body is really nice, 3000 will get u a lt1 with a t-56, then the kit to do it, lets say u wanna keep ac and p/s, 1000, so that is a total of 5000, u let someone do the work for u(i have no idea how much taht would cost), but lets just say 2000, so that is 7000, that leave 8000 to put into the engine, a set of heads will get u around 100hp for like 2000, then 5000 let over, supercharger...i'd say that would be good for about 500-600 whp, reliable to, plus nice burnouts

you're talking about reliablity, i've had my 7 for two years now and it has yet to overheat. came real close when a heater hose blew but i was quick enough to shut the engine down.
