The experiance i had with wrapping wasnt good really...

Wrapped the headers on the old bmw with some heatwrap stuff, burned a hole in the pipes two or three different times, had to get the old section cut out and a new one welded in.

But i think it depens on the material, and the SS stuff might hold up better.

regardless of material...suggestion would be to stay clear of wrapping..

provision for external temps lower than that of the piping is a must for dissapation and cooling..

even though wrappin exhaust piping serves its initial purpose..

it doesnt allow for the release of heat its maintaining..generating heat stress..

recommendation is coatin your exhaust piping..

not only what everyone else has said, but if you happen to drive your vehicle during the winter or in an area that they salt the roads during the winter you have the possibility of the wrapping soaking up the salt and holding it on the piping, which will also cause oxidation to begin from the trapped salt and water, even though the temperature is there to cause it to evaporate the water still may have debris from the road etc. There are lots of problems here in Okinawa with the salt air and the typhoons throwing salt all over. Just another reason not to wrap the pipes.
