T78, 550/1600(cleaned/new), stock reman with 30 to 40k miles, recently installed jacobs rotary pack. after tackling a couple of problems and fixing them im now perplexed and about to give up with the latest one. i have spark, i have fuel, spark plug wires, coils, crank position sensors, igniter, map sensor all with in spec. spark plugs, well about 10 used ones, not bad, not new. compression is not great but not bad...

car wont idle for crap and has bad break up/missing in anything i think above 5k rpms. backfiring left and right. smokes a bit and smells like fuel. i started it on sunday it ran as described aboved turned it off. went out today, pulled the plugs, L1, T1, T2 were black, L2 was clean, compared to the others, but slightly wet. cleaned another set of used plugs turned the car on, ran as described above, pulled the, all are oily, trailings more so than the leadings, L1 more than L2.

any ideas before i pay someone to tell me i need a new engine?

thanks

Is this a new set up you are trying to get running or was she running fine and now you have this on your hands? Are your maps good?

I would also like to know what ECU.

Also, do you still have OMP?? Make sure your jets are in good condition.

double check what you "fixed" and make sure you didn't un-fix something in the process.

duh forgot most important thing. its a power FC tuned about a year ago for this set up. battery seems to be good as per tester. ive checked and tripled checked everything i worked on. everything thats not wrapped(harness) is in check as far as i can tell.

one of the changes was that a friend noticed that the OMP vacum lines were open to ambient and he told me they needed to be hooked up to vacuum in order to work properly. and thats about the only thing different from before.(just remebered bout that).

Battery is easy to check with PFC. Run the car and go look at the battery level thru the commander. If its not up in the 12-14V, than you might have either battery or alternator issue... But in my opinion, I don't think so.

Only reason I asked about oil metering pump is because I've broken down some engines that had sign of oil burning and it seemed it could be oil jets as that was the only thing I saw being wrong. Bad jets will either not pass any air or pass air both ways. Check and make sure as either thats the cause of excessive oil or your oil control ring is bad.. but if your control ring is bad, it will smoke heavily when engine warms up.
