My '94 came with factory exhaust in ok condition and brand new (not on car) downpipe and cat-back parts. Previous owner installed new parts, but car ran poorly, so he took them off and bought new factory exhaust.

I'm not looking to make a race car out of this, but what's simplest / safest / cheapest ECU upgrade to allow use of low-restriction exhaust? All posts I see just talk about need for upgrade without discussion options.
