Hi Flow Catalytic Converter

I'm looking for a replacement hi-flow cat. Any suggestions? I thought I would go all out and just replace it with a straight pipe and resonator from RX7.com but it was much louder than I want. As far as the exhaust goes, I have just the main cat and the racing beat cat back. I like the tone and don't want to go much louder. I'm sure the hi-flow cat will raise the tone some but I don't want to go very loud. Keep in mind it's a daily driver.

BONEZ. Construction, materials, fitment and performance is excellent. I've had one for a number of years with absolutely NO issues. They're a little pricey, but they can stand up to the higher exhaust temps of the rotary.

In addition to noise and smell, installing a mid-pipe can lead to Boost CREEP issues, so IMHO, going with the hi-flow cat is a good move. If you want to quiet it down a little more, header wrap helps a bit and reduces the radiant heat into the cabin too.

This may sound dumb but does it matter if you put a cat first and than an extra midpipe silencer or the other way around?

Why would you do that? Downpipe>cat>cat-back. That's all you need.

Cat has to closest to engine in the order of mufflers and resonators.



Metalic cat will do nothing to reduce noise. Ceramic cat may help some but then not as free flowing. You can get a group buy price from SMB for a metalic cat and muffler in the mid pipe. If you allready have a mid pipe and nothing installed then you can do as I did: Arvin Meritor Metalit Cat (as far forward as possible) and 12" muffler from coast fab or burns stainless (made by coast fab). If you have a street port then you may want to just do the cat only in the mid pipe and the on your exhaust strait pipe section weld in 17" muffler from coast fab.

Well I broke down and bought the Bonez. It toned the exhaust back to a decent level again. I'll road test it tomorrow. I still have my beast on jack stands. I think it'll be okay. I just have to tap my wastegate back into the exhaust. Not sure if I want to weld a pipe into the downpipe or just tap into the converter pipe before the converter. I'll check into it tomorrow.

There is a guy that added a Magnaflow round resonator to the straight pipe after the cat and before the rear muffler to quiet things down further. I think he is Speed of Light or something like that. I think he posted apic and the resonator he used.
