I like to slip the leg of a knock-down engine hoist over a big breaker bar. This gives me about 6-7 feet of leverage and it comes right off!

4 ft fence post on a breaker bar worked for me the 2 times I had to loosen it.

Wow!

Great to see there are lots of other like-minded "I'll use what I can find lying around my back yard" home mechanics out there!

Seriously mmargos, it should come off as everyone has said... Sure you're UNdoing it?...

First e-shaft bolt I ever witnessed come off was my first engine. Had big bertha on her...bertha STRIPPED THE BOLT DOWN...that's how tight it was on there. Mazda must have put locktite and an impact to put that bitch on.

Either way, 10 foot breaker and 3/4 or bigger socket...with about 4 people holding the engine down and 2 to add weight to the bar...that's how my last 2 came off.

OK. It is off.

I took it to a shop that does work on big trucks (transmission, tires, etc.). The guy that helped me out put a 1200 lb*ft impact on it first. Nada.

He had an oxy-acetelene torch on it for a few minutes

Then hit again with the big impact...that did it. It spun right off.

I had tried the heat, but I just couldn't generate enough with a propane torch. I definitely need more tools.

Onward and upward...
