Where are you sourcing your temps?

 

Two places. The stock water temp sensor is feeding the PFC, which I read on the commander, and with an aftermarket mechanical gauge with the sender tapped into the TB coolant system right off of the case (this one shows a less dramatic decrease, but the temp still drops, rather than raise).



I know that the water isn't flowing after shutdown, and I'm not saying that the entire coolant system is being cooled equally by this mod, the water in the center of the case is surely higher than the numbers I'm reading. But the point is it's still cooler than without, even if it's only localized areas, because that in turn will help fight heat soak. It might be partially due to the the fans running over the radiator and thus cooling the case through convection, it might partially be from the fans simply blowing the hot air out of the engine bay which only allows everything to cool faster. Again, my point is, if it gives me lower numbers when I use the fan switch, then I don't care how it got those numbers, I'm just happy that it's doing it.

Saftey, whats that? Martin blew up one engine for running without a boost gauge. Seriously dude no air filter and no wheel well liners? What's with that? I guess you just want a rock in your turbo? Come on your killing me.

I'm thinking it's gotta be the former that's giving you the lower readings. In any case, whatever works.

IMHO, it can't be bad anytime you remove heat from this car. I've focused on this as much as anything since I bought it...the fan mod, Miata thermoswitch, wrapped my DP, Fluidyne radiator, and even switched to all synthetic fluids. Maybe some ceramic coating in the future as well. I'm a fossil, preferring the stock/near stock look, and just wished they offered a vented hood that had a little more subtle styling.

he's got a screen over the inlet, but its not a small enough mesh to block off little debris

Agreed. The Mazdaspeed Hood is the most modest (Go figure, it's from Mazda) but it still seems out of place sometimes to me, and I don't like the idea of having to use hoodpins to do it safely...

 

They have hood pins that look nice now though. Very inconspicuous. You can barely see them in my sig.

Martin you cheap focker. If your going to run w/o wheel wells, then get an air filter. That is unless you have T-04R compressor blades growing from your back yard.
