Alright, on my old FD I had a greddy turbo timer installed. So what I would do is turn the car off, turn the key back on to the "ON" setting on the car, yet not turning the actual motor over to run. Now, at this point the fans would come on when the key is in the "ON" position. So what I would do is allow my turbo timer to load up and get ready, then I would kill the car and pull the key out. However, since the turbo timer is in the car, the car would run like the key was still in the "ON" position. This would allow the fans to run for the entire length of time in which the turbo timer would allow.





Just letting you guys know this idea if it's not a already well known way to run a ghetto fan mod. I don't know about you guys, but I dont feel like cutting up wires or anything else in my car, and this is the best way to let the fans run for 3o seconds to 10 min depending on how you have the turbo timer set. enjoy !

i had planned to wire one into the controller for my electric water pump... to make it run after i shut the car off.

I did the "fan mod" a couple of years ago. If the coolant temp is high enough for the fans to be running in the first place, they automatically run for 10 minutes after turning the car off, even without the TT. i ment to ask you, how do you get them to come on on your car ? For some reason on my new FD, if i turn the key to on after turning the car off, the fans don't come on. Do i need the AC on ?

you can also pull the ac relay and turn the fan setting on 3 and turn the ac on...the a/c wont run but the fans will come on

Just read of this concept, surprised I didn't think of it myself. Definitely going to do this at track days.



It's true, however, that the fans will stay on regardless when the ECU thinks the car is too hot....too bad it waits for a very high temp to do so.



Cool idea though, I know I didn't think of it, will try it out if the need be. Our 50-70 degree, non humid NE weather has been great for the FD as of late...running so cool.

Pulling the A/C relay seems like overkill for something that the regular fan switch mod resolves easily. Why make it so you have to pull the thing every time and lose the A/C when you do it. The fan mod accomplishes the same thing without the downsides.



Now if you guys could tell me how to make aftermarket fans on custom relays run after shut-down without wacky turbo timer wiring, that would be the hot ticket.

it's not overkill for me because I never use my AC ever. So this doesn't have and adverse effects on the car at all? I'm deff going to start doing this since i never use the A/C. It's a nice saftey feature if I encounter some stop and go traffic in summertime. Also, If i know im going to be running the car hard for a few minutes, ill be able to turn the fans on before i even run. Niceee, thanks !

No offense to the others, but I was thinking the same thing. If you want to get fancy, run the wire from the ECU to a switch before grounding. Then you can turn them on anytime you want.

FWIW, I also combined it with the Miata/FC thermoswitch mod so fans come on by themselves a bit earlier anyway.
