I just got a 88 n/a running after previous owner stored it for over 2 years, it smokes on start up and quits after about 15 minutes of idle. It is white smoke and has over 100k miles. Is it the seals and should I be worried. It is bone stock by the way but I am going to use as a daily driver when good weather returns until I get a 3rd gen.

thats fine. Its just the oil control rings are old and baked. Has nothing to do with compression, or overall longevity. You can drive it forever like that until it starts to smoke all the time. Just keep driving it.

wouldn't white smoke be water vapor? It would be the o-rings then.

I had the same problem with my 88 GTU and i had massive oil and water consumption. so be careful and check ur fluids occasionally.... once a week is ok..... i let my family drive it for a week and told them to check up on it and they neglected my advise... and now my GTU wont start and needs a push from another vehicle to start and alot of white smoke comes out and the water/coolant drops dramaticallly.... so basically i'm carless

i wish i could... them!!!!!!!

I hope to use as a daily driver and just make some ext. upgrades, wheels and tires and fresh paint. etc..., but I will drive it until it breaks, I have already done the research on a new engine, so we shall see..

Thanks for the info

Drive it like you stole it!

you guys should both invest in a rebuild kit and fix those cars, driving in that state isnt exactly condusive to having a good rebuildable core for when you finally get off yer *** for the rebuild.

a friend did the ATF trick and it blew his motor. sometimes it works sometimes it dose not what i recomend is take a tooth brush and dip it in atf rather than spray atf in it scrub the seals with the tooth brush. turn the motor and do that for all the seals then let it sit for about 24hours then start it up there will be alot of smoke but after about 15min it will be done. just start the car and let it smoke go inside and chill then when you see the smoke clearing then go drive it and make a few redline pass's. thats how i did it on my car. i did it and i went from 85-85-85 on both rotors to 90-90-90 on my 91na
