Smoke at start up & backfire at start

I need help!!! Everytime I start my car, It smokes badly! It kind of clears up after it warms up. It also back fires when I let of the gas when im driving. What do you guys think?

P.S. It's an 88 Non Turbo

coolant leak? easiest way to tell is the color and smell, i think....

Sounds like leaky injectors, extra fuel.

The backfire makes it sound like Baldy is right, IIRC, the cars burn the incomplete combustion off in the exhaust, too much fuel, and you get smoke, fire and brimstone.

it is normal for the rotary to smoke a little when it starts up as long as it stops pretty much right away. the other guys are probably right about the backfire...
