Well, when I first bought my car, I had a problem where the engine would sometimes rev up and die on cold starts. It seemed to be a vacuum leak. However, the motor seemed to boost fine and the gauge seemed to read correctly. I took the car to a shop for some other reasons, and for about 2000 miles, the problem stopped. However, The car did it again yesterday. This time though, my vacuum/boost meter started wigging out. Under light acceleration, the needle would be all over the gauge (except into the boost), jumping up and down all over the place. However, I also noticed last night that the gauge simply does not read boost. Even at 6000rpm in 2nd gear with the gas floored, the needle does not ever go into the "boost region." I have noticed a slight whooshing sound when accelerating with the car. The car also felt slightly slower than normal, though this might have just been my mind playing with me. The turbo definitely spools, as I can't think of anything else that would make such a sound at such high RPMs. So I assume that it's a vaccum leak somewhere. Otherwise it could just be the gauge/sensor wigging out. Any thoughts/best plan of action? The car is a 89 Turbo II. Thanks.
