Shifter Problem, HELP!

alright heres the problem, i bought a 87 N/A a few weeks ago...everything is fine except for this....my first gear is all the way to the top left corner and my 5th gear is all the way to the right corner....but my 2nd - 4th gear feels like a short shifter....hmmm so i finally got to taking off the shift boot and this is what i found....

so i was wondering if anyone knows what i need to buy to fix this and where i can get it and about how much?

your shift boots are all ripped



mazdatrix has em, but theyre wayyy expensive. **** that.



the gears being funny is probably the plastic busings in there, youll probably see pieces of them if you take the shifter out. the new things are like $20 from mazdatrix, well worth it, just look for shifter bushings.

I never had any problems with my torn boot. Just fix it or upgrade to real bushings

+1 for the bushings



i'd also replace that 3 hole shifter boot, on the trans. what happens is that one breaks, then the hot gear oil and fumes eat the set of boots on the body of the car, then those die and it eats the shifter boot, and all that hot air and gear oil fumes comes into the cabin.



your upper boot looks ok, i'd replace that lower one though
