Hey all, other than having to make custom mounts and a custom drive shaft what are the pros/cons of using a 1st gen short pinion set-up?

the pro is that you can use any of the off the shelf gears! fc sucks for gears!

in short pinion they have

3.7

3.9

4.1

4.3

4.4

Mazdatrix used to carry an adapter to put 1st gen gear sets into the FC - it was sort of a shaft extender. I don't know if these are still available but it would make your job a whole lot easier.

My dad suggested this the other day when we bought a GXL diff. He thought that the smaller FB/SA steel differential part would be lighter. Is there a big difference?

I think I am going to just say screw it and get 4.3 from a GTUs or get a them new.
