It's a lot easier to find a 4.3 rear end and just put in a new diff than to build one from scratch, especially if you don't know what your doing. It's a precision deal, setting back lash and adjusting the crush bushing. This guy here has a good write up with some advice on parts. rear diff write up I would stay away from cheap ebay parts. Mazda trix has good quality ring and pingions too. But the 4.1 rear end isn't that bad with a good LSD in it too. Good luck

well, i got lucky and found a TII rear, axles, and driveshaft for 200!

i also got my TII tranny for 100 to my door.

so 300 for all that is not a bad deal. i'll wait on the solid rear until this becomes to weak. wich will be a little while.

I still find it blasphemous to have 4-link in the back of a 2nd gen...why not swap the tii drivetrain of your 91 coupe into your 1st gen?

Blasphemy is drag racing an FC with all independent suspension

I thought it was making a car designed to turn only go straight.

I bought a 94+ miata lsd off ebay (they are hard to find cheap, at least for me it was), then I took my rear end apart and took it all to pineapple racing and had them install the lsd in the casing, I didn't have the tool to do the backlash and I just wanted to make sure it was done right. They charged me $100 to swap the diff. I'm happy with it though. I think I paid somewhere around 400-500 all together to have mine, plus my labor.

I would NEVER cheap out on a gear type LSD. They are weak by design because of all those little gears and the only way they can be strong and last is by using top quality materials and manufacturing techniques with top notch quality control These are exactly the things that knock off products cheap out on, so while it's cheaper, it probably won't be nearly as strong or last nearly as long. Miata Torsens can be found for not much more, so really there's no reason not to go that way, to me $100 extra is worth it when you get a quality product. Even if you get a free replacement, the cost to get the car towed and the diff swapped will far exceed the price difference between it and a Miata Torsen.

TII guys can use Torsens from the FD.
