ok.. i dont know exactly whats going on and i cant find anything in the search that is specific to my problem. my car is a turboII s4 88 with 150k on it i was driving over to a friends house.. stopped there (left the car running) left his house and noticed that none of my gauges are working. we stopped at another friends house and noticed the 80a main relay was blown.. replaced it... still no guages.. i also noticed at this time that the heater was not working either. checked the fuses at the drivers side panel and everything seems to be in working order.. i still have the speedo just not the tach, water temp, oil pressure etc etc. there is no heater fan at all...so i dont know if its just not blowing the heat or what...i have an aftremarket boost, watertemp and oil pressure so i was ok going home but...im not exactly sure what the problem is. i got home late and im at work now so i cant work on it till later tongiht... but i need to get this fixed cuz i have some parts i need to ship out and the wife is gunna have the other car all week for work so i really really need to get this fixed.

coud this be caused by broken wires on the alternator harness?

any help would be awesome!!

Check the fuse again in the driver kick panel third row third column. I have a 10 amp fuse there it blows after 5 or 6 times putting the car in reverse Cant figure it out yet.

if youve got broken wires on your alternator harness it could be grounding something out or zapping something. but check your "meter" fuse again. sometimes they break in a spot that you cant see. use a test light and touch each of the 2 metal test things on the fuse. if only one side lights up its blown. do your tailights work? make sure your tailights are working, your tailights are tied in with the lighting on your gauges. if not owrking then you have a short somewhere. did you install a cd player? who installed the other stuff? and re connect those wires with solder or butt connectors at the alternator harness and see if that helps

your car shouldnt have been able to start with a blown 80A fuse.

normally that fuse blows when that single wire on the alt. grounds for a decent amount of time.

im guessing you blew more then one fuse, check it with a test light, sometimes just looking at it it looks fine when it isnt.

Check the ground to the chassis, battery can always kick over the starter with alt or not at least 2-3 times and get you where you need to go. If that doesn't work, chase all the grounds, its always a ground terminal that corrodes before a positive goes.

Sounds like you've got some melted wires... try pulling the bulbs, check the bulb housings, maybe they fused together.

Ya i got some melted wires gonna take some pics cause Im not even sure the original colors. May need to take the dash apart and trace the wires back to good wire and splice in some . My poor car was owned by abusive people before I got it. Im trying to save it from the pile .. LOL
