I seem to have a LOT to learn about EGT's and whats an acceptible range and what is just outright too hot or too cold for the engine. I realised this went I sent my turbo off for a simple bit of welding work only to find it had cracked to hell on the inside.



Im not after an EGT to shoot for at any giving load im just after a broad range taken that every engine will react diferently in what it wants to run best. So really Im after a whats 'in the right ballpark'



I plan to put sensors in the runners and log this when the cars back together but in the mean time I thought id post.



To give you an idea my EGTS were as high as 800-900c (1400-1600f) post turbo in cruise and after boost.

my big port big single car cruzes at 70mph at about -10hg vacum is 1350-1400f after turbo,if there is more vacum my egt is lower 1100 to 1200f im a bit off on my timming map and will be correcting that but on the dyno the best i have seen asfar as hp and drivabulity at WOT full load is 1600 to 1650 turbo and na

Maybe im not that far out then! I do wonder if the death of the snail was just the repetative heat cycles rather than being over cooked. It was a 2nd hand unit afterall. Still its nice to know what are healthy heat levels and what are just out right too hot.
