Idle Rpm?

well when i was in my car today my rpm was was at 1000 which it seem funny i cant explain it well but it seem to idle at 1000 then drop to 850-950. it sounds fine when the rpm drops but when its idling at 1000 its seems like its going to stop working and die . Its an 88 turbo

sticking thermowax? the thermowax is the thing that keeps the idle high when its cold, its either bad, or theres air in the coolant lines

my 90 S5 NA starts idling at around 200-300 when it gets up to temprature, i thinks it's funny, but it has still great throttle response and everything, when i just start the car up tho, it idles at around 1500 to 2000 for about 5 sec, then drops to about 800, then down to 200-300 somewhere in there, if you look at the tachometer, it looks almost like the engine is off, but it's still running
