Hey, I have a 1987 Turbo II, I just dropped in a JSpec engine after replacing a few parts and I went to start it.



First time, the engine reved high, the cause was cruise control cable too tight. Got that fixed, and now when I start the engine, it will run for a few seconds, then dies.



The engine will run fine as long as pressure is applied to the gas pedal.



Any Ideas or suggestions??

uhmmm... lots of stuff... sounds like a vacum leak though. also check your Turbo Inlet Duct (Tid)

 

Same thing happened to me and it was a cracked apeix seal. Id check compression. and here is a link to my thread on rx7club.com I checked quite a few things befor I determined it was the seal. Vac leaks are very common check all those as well

 

If you used the J-spec UIM, it has no passage for the idle adjust on the BAC.



Instead you set the idle stop screw on the back of the TB.



If you have to turn up the idle stop very much, the the TPS will need resetting.

Thanks Guys, I will try all of that. Cause there is a screw on the side of the BAC valve but when you mess with it nothing changes.



I did the i guess you can say "redneck" way to test for compression and I have good compression on it.



But, I will certainly try these other things.
